Maricopa County Digital Twins

The digital twins for Maricopa County are crucial tools for understanding and addressing disparities in broadband access across diverse communities in Maricopa County. By creating a virtual representation of the county’s infrastructure, including broadband connectivity and accessibility, we aim to uncover data-driven insights to better serve underserved areas.

Access to reliable broadband is essential for education, healthcare, job opportunities, and overall economic development. However, many communities in Maricopa County are either underserved or unserved, creating digital divides that exacerbate social and economic inequalities. This digital twin project will map these disparities and model potential solutions, providing regional leaders and planners with the data they need to drive equitable access.

Project components:

1. Mapping Broadband Availability: Using spatial data from AZGeo and ArcGIS, we will create detailed maps showing current broadband coverage, highlighting underserved areas.

2. Data Visualization: The digital twin will integrate multiple data layers, including Ookla speed test results, socio-economic factors, and population density, allowing users to explore broadband access challenges across the county visually.

3. Predictive Modeling: Once the twin is built, we’ll explore different broadband development strategies and model their potential impact on communities.

4. Engagement and Collaboration: This digital twin will be a collaborative effort with input from community leaders, residents, and broadband service providers, creating a solution designed by and for the people it serves.

Digital twins allow us to create a dynamic, 3D virtual model that evolves with real-time data. We can simulate broadband improvements for Maricopa County, providing decision-makers with a powerful tool to plan more effectively. Beyond broadband, this digital twin could serve as a model for solving other regional infrastructural challenges.
