Engage 2025 – See What We’ve Been Building

We’re bringing four of our most ambitious projects to the ASU Technology Engage 2025 Expo. Come see AI, spatial computing, and game technology built by and for the ASU community

We love an opportunity to show our work — and the ASU Technology Engage 2025 Expo is one of our favorites.

Come find the Next Lab booth and spend some time with the projects our student guilds and partners have been building. We’ll have four live demos running, each tackling a genuinely different challenge. Here’s what to expect.

Alder-Mayo — Virtual Stroke Assessment Simulator

Built in partnership with Mayo Clinic, Alder-Mayo is a clinical training simulator that puts medical students face-to-face with realistic 3D patients. Facial motion capture animations, AI voice recognition, and hand-tracking controls combine to create an assessment environment that feels consequential — because the skills it builds are.

This is spatial computing doing something that matters: making high-quality clinical training more accessible and more repeatable.

EdgeAI — Offline AI for the Classroom and Beyond

Our EdgeAI prototype runs Meta Llama on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin GPU — low-power, fully offline, and small enough to embed directly into the ASU SolarSPELL Initiative’s solar-powered digital library devices.

The idea is straightforward: AI that works where the internet doesn’t. Built for remote and underserved communities where connectivity isn’t guaranteed but the need for quality educational resources absolutely is. Come see it running in person — it’s a small piece of hardware doing something significant.

FutureScape — Career Exploration for Middle Schoolers

FutureScape is a Unity-built game designed to help middle school students explore what different careers actually feel like — not just what they’re called. Fifteen industries across eight career areas, each with mini-games that simulate real work experiences in ways that are genuinely engaging rather than just informational.

We built this because career awareness at the middle school level shapes trajectories. Games are one of the best tools we have for making that exploration feel real.

Engage AI Avatars — Build Your Own AI Presence

Through the Engage multiplayer platform, this project lets users build custom AI avatars — NPC-like chatbots that can answer questions, generate 3D models, and interact with users inside immersive environments. It’s an AI avatar builder that takes seriously what it means to have a presence in a spatial computing world.

If you’ve been curious about where conversational AI and virtual environments meet, this demo will show you exactly that.

Come find us

We’ll be at the ASU Technology Engage 2025 Expo and we want to talk — about the projects, about what’s next, and about what problems you’re trying to solve that we might be able to help with.

Stop by the Next Lab booth. Our students built this work and they’re the best people to walk you through it.
